How do I join AMSA?

You can join AMSA at any time! It is a simple two step process: Fill out a membership form and then pay your dues; both steps are imperative to completing your AMSA membership!

  • New members should first pay dues through the National AMSA website (National AMSA sends us the roster often, so you don't have to worry. We will know you paid your dues!)

  • Returning members can either pay online for $35 or in person at any general meeting by cash, check, or credit card. (If paying in person with credit card, there will be a small convenience fee of $2.00)

How much are Dues?

Dues are $75.00 for new members and $35.00 for returning members every year thereafter.  This is a one time payment that will cover the entire academic year and provide you with an all-inclusive access to everything we have to offer.

Why are new member dues expensive compared to other pre-health organizations?

Due to the fact that Pre-Med AMSA is a national affiliation, the new member dues will go to National AMSA. This fee of $75.00 will not only benefit you with the UCF Chapter, but can also offer you discounts on MCAT courses as well as other pre-med related needs.

What is the difference between AMSA and other pre-health organizations? Can I join more than one?

AMSA is the only student organization on campus catered to students who are interested in attending medical school. We prepare our members to become well-rounded applicants to medical school through volunteering, leadership, clinical shadowing and research opportunities, speaker series, trips/tours of medical schools, among many other ways.

Is there a minimum GPA to join AMSA?

No- we have an open door policy so we accept all students with the common interest of becoming physicians!

What does the membership application entail?

The application itself is entirely online. You will be asked to provide some basic information about yourself, like your name, e-mail, and etc.

What if I have class during part/all of meetings?

Several of our members either have to leave early from meetings or arrive late due to class. It is never a problem as far as your participation in AMSA. Most of our events are on other days of the week, so as to ensure that members have a chance to make it our to something! We also have all our meetings recorded by our secretary, and the Meeting Minutes and PowerPoints are always posted to the website so you won't have to miss our amazing speakers or events going on!

Where is the AMSA cubicle?

The AMSA office is on the 2nd floor of the Student Union in the Office of Student Involvement, room 208. Please stop by to pick up an events sheet and newsletter or just to say hello!

Where and when are the meetings held?

AMSA meets bi-monthly on Tuesdays from 5:00 -6:30 in the Student Union Key West Ballroom-218AB.  Please check our events calendar for the next meeting date!

Where can I find out about events?

General AMSA events will be posted on the events page of the website and will be updated after every general meeting.  You can also find out about our events by e-mailing and by adding us on Facebook Pre-Med AMSA @ UCF and Instagram @PreMedAMSAUCF.

Can I remain a member if I have not been active?

Yes, we do not require honors AMSA status to remain a member. You will only be excluded from our honors amsa status list that is turned into the Pre-Health Office at the end of every semester.

What if I went to an event but it’s not showing up on my points log?

If it has been less than two weeks since the event, we may still be in the process of putting in your points. If it has been more than two weeks since the event, you can either email or email the director that was in charge of that event to assure that it be corrected.

Once I join, do I have to re-apply to remain a member?

Yes, you must apply every year to renew your membership. If you first joined in the Fall, you have to reapply every Fall. If you joined in Spring, you will have to re-apply each Fall. If you joined in the Summer, your membership will count towards the following Fall Semester.

Can AMSA help me find volunteering opportunities?

Yes, our volunteering directors are here to help you! They can provide you with the information you need to find volunteering events in the area. They cannot line up positions for you, but they can give you the advice and tools you need to do it yourself.

Are my volunteering hours tracked through Volunteer UCF?

Yes, you can join AMSA on KnightConnect so you can log in your volunteer hours and keep track of them.
